OXFORD, Ohio - On the first day of competition, the University of Evansville men's swimming and diving team earned a pair of fourth-place finishes at the 2019 MAC Championships in Oxford, Ohio, hosted by Miami University.
The Aces sit in fourth-place in the five-team field at the championships after the opening day, amassing 60 points. After two events, Evansville sits just four points behind third-place Southern Illinois and holds a four-point lead over fifth-place Ball State.
Opening the championships with the 200 yard medley relay, the Aces took fourth with a time of 1:31.13 in the meet-opening relay. Evansville finished just two-tenths of a second off a school-record time. The team of sophomore Credence Pattinson, sophomore Eli James, sophomore Ryan Wood, and senior Matt Duke finished less than two seconds off of a podium finish.

In the final event of the opening evening, Evansville set a school-record in the 800 yard freestyle relay. Junior Brandt Hudson, freshman Oskar Menkhaus, sophomore Austin Smith, and senior Jared Sutphin led the Aces to a fourth-place finish in the relay, swimming to a more than five-second advantage over fifth-place finishing Ball State.
Evansville opens the second day of the championships with the 500 yard freestyle in Nixon Aquatic Center.
