Game Notes
SETTING THE SCENE:  • The Aces (17-11) are coming off their second straight Missouri Valley Conference series win, taking a 2-1 series victory over highly-regarded Dallas Baptist for the first time since 2014, and are off to a 5-1 start in Missouri Valley Conference play. That's their best start in league play since 1998. UE lost to Austin Peay in the road 10-2 in a mid-week contest.
THE OPPOSITION:  • Indiana (19-12) has won six of its last eight games, including series victories over both Maryland and Penn State. The Hoosiers took an extra-inning decision from against in-state and Big Ten rival Purdue on Wednesday, 7-6.
THE STARTING ROTATION:  •  The Aces will open the weekend with junior right-hander Adam Lukas taking the hill for UE. In his last start, the highly-touted ace bounced back from a rocky start against Dallas Baptist to toss seven innings, striking out seven, while allowing three runs on six hits. Indiana will counter with right-hander Pauly Milto.
On Saturday, the Aces will send out junior left-hander Nathan Croner for his ninth start of the season in game one of a doubleheader. The southpaw went 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out five against Dallas Baptist. He got a no-decision, as Evansville went onto beat the Patriots, 11-5. The Hoosiers will counter right-hander Tanner Gordon.
In Saturday's game two, the Aces will once again turn to senior left-hander Alex Weigand for his seventh start of the season. Last weekend, Weigand went 3.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out four in a loss to Dallas Baptist. Indiana will counter with left-hander Andrewa Saalfrank.Â
Neither team has named a starter for Sunday's series finale in Bloomington.
ALL-TIME SERIES:  • The Aces and Hoosiers have faced each other 24 times over the years, with IU holding a razor thin 18-16 edge in the series. The last time the two teams met, Indiana edged UE 7-6 in Bloomington on March 15, 2016. Evansville last beat the Hoosiers on April 28, 2015 at Braun Stadium.
