EVANSVILLE, Ind. - In the final weekend of the regular season, the University of Evansville men's and women's track and field teams compete in the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Louisville, Ky.

The Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational represents the final regular season meet for the Aces before heading to Terre Haute, Ind. for the 2019 MVC Outdoor Championships on May 10 and 12. 1,400 competitors representing 26 teams will compete during the two days of competition in the largest meet in the University of Louisville's school history.

"On my behalf, it's just another meet. Our job is to go out and set new personal records. That's all we want to do," said men's and women's track and field head coach Don Walters. "This meet is a fantastic large meet. If we don't try and set personal records and we try to compete against these teams, we aren't going to do that. We want to go in and set prs and have a really good mindset and go to conference."

Evansville is coming off a successful meet at the Bellarmine Classic two weekends ago. For the third time this season, the Aces' men's team captured the team championship, finishing with 132 points unofficially, besting Davenport by 22 points. On the women's side, Evansville earned a fourth-place finish, recording 78 total points, unofficially, and concluding the classic as the top scoring NCAA Division I team.

The highlight of the second day of competition for the Aces came in the women's 4x400 meters as Evansville broke a program record. The team of Haylee Harmeyer, Skylar Tucker, Monica Watkins, and Haley Dean finished first in the event in a time of 4:08.82, toppling the previous program record by more than two seconds.

On the men's side, Ricky Hendrix captured a third place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Hendrix finished in a time of 10:12.28, improving upon his personal best by 18 seconds and moving him into fifth in the program record book in the 3000 meter steeplechase.

In the men's 100 meter dash, Greg King achieved a milestone. King broke the 11 second barrier for the first time, covering the distance in 10.98 to earn a first-place finish among collegiate competitors.

Sophomore Stanley Chepchieng continued to dominate the triple jump. Chepchieng earned first place in triple jump with an outdoor pr of 13.99 meters. The day did not end there for Chepchieng who also ran the second-fastest 800 meter race of Chepchieng's career with a time of 1:54.85, finishing in third place.

In the field, Michael Boots and Ryan Freeman both earned podium finishes in the discus. Boots captured first place with a personal-best throw of 47.47 meters, setting a new program record, while Freeman also recorded a pr with a throw of 40.00 meters, earning Freeman a third place finish. Boots and Freeman continued to impress in the shot put as the duo finished third and fourth, respectively, and teammate Andrew Schuller finished in fifth.

Competing in the javelin, Justus Donaldson set a new program record, throwing a distance of 45.62 meters, and earning first-place in the event.

Much like the women's team, the Aces' men's 4x400 meter relay team saw success on Saturday. The team of Chris Backer, Phil Dzienciol, Carson Kline, and Stanley Chepcheing finished second in the event in a time of 3:26.22, the fastest time for the Aces since 1976.

For Evansville's women, Anna Lowry showed much of what the sophomore did during the cross country season. Lowry once again lowered her program record in the 1500 meters, bettering it by seven seconds with a time of 4:48.93, finishing in fifth. In the 5000 meters, Lowry grabbed an early lead 1000 meters in and held onto the advantage throughout the race, capturing the win by a more than 15-second margin in a time of 18:16.60.

In the women's high jump competition, Erin Nixon finished in second place. Nixon set a new program record for Evansville in outdoor competition with a height of 1.50 meters.

 Continuing Evansville's strong showing in field events, Brittany Corley tallied the third longest throw among collegiate competition, throwing a distance of 34.25 meters.

The duo of Taiza Alexander (5.16 meters) and Skylar Tucker (4.91 meters) helped lead the charge in the long jump competition. Alexander and Tucker each finished in the top three, finishing in second and third, respectively

Friday's action at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational gets underway at 1:00 p.m. with the women's unseeded hammer throw competition and the men's unseeded shot put competition and at 3:30 p.m. on the track with the prelims of the women's 100 meter hurdles. On Saturday, field events begin at 8:00 a.m. with the men's javelin and on the track at noon with the women's and men's 3,000 meter steeplechase.
