Day two comes to a close for Aces at MVC Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - On a slick day, the University of Evansville men's and women's track and field teams continued competition despite challenging conditions on the second day of the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships In Terre Haute, Ind.

In the men's long jump, freshman Nick Ryan led the way for Evansville. Ryan finished in 13th in the event with a jump of 6.36 meters and was joined by Alan Kerstiens in the event, who earned a 16th-place finish with a distance of 6.14 meters.

Also in the field for the Aces, Michael Boots powered the Evansville contingent in the men's shot put. Boots finished less than 2.5 meters out of points-position for the Aces, capturing a 12th-place finish with a throw of 14.17 meters.

Posting a team-best this season, Haylee Harmeyer impressed with a strong time in the women's 800 meter dash. Finishing in 22nd, Harmeyer ran the fastest 800 meters by an Ace this season, crossing the line in a time of 2:27.96.

In the women's 100 meters prelims, a pair of Aces finished within .11 seconds of one another. Nikki Hutchcraft and Monica Watkins finished 24th and 25th, respectively, recording times of 12.82 and 12.93 seconds.

Nearly qualifying for Sunday's final, Trey Riggs impressed in the men's 110 meter hurdles. Missing a qualifying position by less than half a second, Riggs crossed the finish line in 12th with a time of 15.88 seconds.

Also for Evansville, in the 400 meters freshman Brendon Smith tallied a strong time, finishing 13th and tallying a time of 51.74 seconds.

For the second-straight meet, Greg King broke 11 seconds in the men's 100 meter dash. King finished 17th in the prelims after putting up a 10.98 second time in the 100 meters, his second-straight sub-11 second time after running a 10.86 second 100 meters at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational.

The 2019 MVC Championships comes to a close on Sunday as the final day of competition begins with the women's long jump at 9 a.m. (CT) in the field and at Noon (CT) on the track with the men's and women's 4x100 meter relays. The final events of the championships are scheduled to begin at 2:55 p.m. (CT) with the men's and women's 4x400 meter relays.
