Humes and Smallwood combined to win four National Championships

Larry Humes and Ed Smallwood earn Hall of Fame Induction

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Small College Basketball announced its 2019 National Hall of Fame Class and 2019 National Hall of Fame Classic, presented by Hillyard, field at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Kansas City.  Included in the class are a pair of University of Evansville stars and Hall of Famers – Larry Humes and Ed Smallwood.
 
The Small College Basketball (SCB) National Hall of Fame Classic, presented by Hillyard, will return to the St. Joseph (MO) Civic Arena on Friday and Saturday, November 1-2, while the National Hall of Fame will now take place at the Missouri Theatre in St. Joseph on Thursday, October 31.
 
Larry Humes led the Purple Aces to a pair of National Championships in 1964 and 1965.  He was a two-time Associated Press Little College All-American while also garnering United Press International Small College All-American accolades on two occasions. 
 
Humes was named to the NCAA College Division Championship All-Tournament Team in each season he led UE to the championship.  Humes finished his career with 2,236 points, the most in program history from 1966 until 2013.
 
Ed Smallwood also led the Aces to two National Championships in 1959 and 1960.  He was a 3-time United Press International All-American and a two-time NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player.  Smallwood was chosen to the NCAA Elite Eight 50th Anniversary Team in 2006.  He finished his illustrious career with 1,898 points, a tally that remains 5th in program history.  His total of 981 rebounds remains 4th in the UE record books.
 
Humes and Smallwood join 2016 inductees Arad McCutchan and Jerry Sloan as UE's representatives in the Hall of Fame.
