EVANSVILLE – After completing the preseason, the University of Evansville men's soccer team opens the regular season with a matchup with EIU at 6 p.m. on Friday evening at Arad McCutchan Stadium.

Last Match: Evansville 1, Northwestern 1

• The Aces and Wildcats combined for 23 shots in the match with Northwestern narrowly edging Evansville in shots, 12-11. Evansville had the advantage on shots in the second half, out-shooting the Wildcats, 10-4, in the final 45 minutes.
• The opening half featured the bulk of the action in the midfield as both teams strived to secure possession. In the 34th minute, Northwestern opened the scoring with a goal by Spencer Howard off an assist by Ty Seager.
• Evansville could not find the answer to the Wildcats in the first half, but did so in the 67th minute. After a shot from freshman Matic Pavlic was saved on a diving attempt by Northwestern keeper Miha Miskovic, senior Ben Weber collected the rebounded shot and finished in the back of the net. Neither side could find the game-winner late in the 1-1 draw.
• After the conclusion of regulation, the Aces and Wildcats went to penalty kicks with Northwestern earning a 4-3 advantage in the shootout.

Previewing the Matchup

• After a pair of exhibition matches, the University of Evansville men's soccer team begins the regular season with a contest with EIU at 6 p.m. on Friday evening at Arad McCutchan Stadium. 
• The Aces went 0-1-1 in their exhibitions with a 1-0 loss on the road to No. 3 Akron on August 18 and a 1-1 tie with Northwestern at home one week ago. The lone goal of the preseason scored by the Aces came by senior Ben Weber who found the back of the net in the 67th minute off a rebounded shot by Matic Pavlic. 
• Evansville welcomes in the Panthers for its home opener on Friday. The Aces are undefeated in home openers since 2015 with the last loss for Evansville in a home opener coming in a 2-1 double-overtime loss to Air Force on Sept. 4, 2015.
• Eastern Illinois enters the 2019 season after recording a 3-11-4 overall mark in 2018. The Panthers concluded lasts eason with a 0-5-1 record in their last six matches, including a narrow 1-0 loss to top-seeded Denver in the opening round of the Summit League Tournament.
• In the preseason, EIU faced a familiar opponent to the Aces in fellow MVC member Valparaiso. EIU earned a 1-0 win over Valpo in its exhibition opener. After the win over Valpo, the Panthers concluded their preseason with a 3-0 loss to Saint Louis. 
• The Aces aren't the only MVC opponent on the Panthers' schedule. After opening the season with UE, EIU will face Bradley on the road on Sept. 13. 
• In 2018, EIU had the fourth-worst offense in the nation, averaging just 0.44 goals per match. The Panthers do return top goal-scorer Christian Sosnowski who tallied three goals for EIU a year ago. 
• A strong defense for the Panthers see its key piece return in 2019 with goalkeeper Jonathan Burker returning between the posts, where the redshirt junior recorded a 1.20 goals-against average and 66 saves in 2018.
