Box Score EVANSVILLE - With a late goal in regulation, the University of Evansville men's soccer team grabbed a valuable 1-1 double-overtime draw on the road at Lipscomb on Tuesday night in Nashville, Tenn.

"That was a hard-fought match tonight against a very good Lipscomb team who went deep into the NCAA Tournament last year," said Aces' head men's soccer coach Marshall Ray. "They've got some players that are good going forward and great movement in the attack and it put us under some pressure early. We were able to sort through some things and I think we were able to impose ourselves on the match in the second half and the overtimes. What a strike by Jesse Stafford-Lacey as our captain to pull us through. We really took it to them in the overtime period and especially in the second overtime period snd created some great opportunities. There's a lot of fight in this team and a lot of grit."

The opening 30 minutes featured chances by  both sides, but the majority of opportunities missed wide of goal in the early going. Lipscomb found its go-ahead goal in the 36th minute as Hayes Wood found the end of passes from Alejandro Lopez and Noah Gulden and pushed the Bisons in front in the final 10 minutes of the first half. Evansville tallied just five shots in the opening stanza, while Lipscomb recorded nine.

Coming out of the break, Evansville slowly gained control of scoring opportunities, but put just one shot on frame in the first 80 minutes of the match. The Aces created a favorable position for themselves in the 83rd minute as freshman Lucas Weir eyed a free kick from the top of the box. Weir struck the ball over the wall and dipped it down, ricocheting the ball off the crossbar. The ball deflected out and bounced off multiple players before senior Jesse Stafford-Lacey opportunistically pounced on the ball and soared the ball past the keeper from 35 yards out to tie the match at one. Evansville had opportunities in the final five minutes to take the match in regulation, but were unable to find the back of the net.

The first overtime featured few shots for either side with both teams combining for _ shots in the first 10 minute overtime. A complete shift occurred in the second overtime as Evansville created great opportunities out of the gate. The Aces recorded 10 shots in the second overtime alone with five coming on-goal, but the Bisons kept the Aces out of goal as Lipscomb and Evansville battled to a 1-1 tie.

Despite the shot deficit in the first half, Evansville out-shot the Bisons, 25-17, in the match, led by four shots from Weir.

Evansville returns home to Arad McCutchan for the first time in over two weeks when the Aces play host to UNC Asheville at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening.
