EVANSVILLE - University of Evansville men's soccer alum Zac Blaydes has received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, it was announced by the association.
The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
"It is an honor to be chosen for such an award," said Blaydes. "Not only does this award recognize my athletic accomplishments throughout my career, but it also takes into account my commitment to the classroom."
The one-time non-renewable scholarships of $10,000 are awarded three times a year corresponding to each sport season (fall, winter and spring). Â Each sports season there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women for use in an accredited graduate program.
Athletically, Blaydes played in 73 games for the Aces, scoring six goals and recording 21 assists, while helping Evansville earn double-digit wins in back-to-back seasons in 2016 and 2017. In the classroom, Blaydes graduated with a degree in exercise science, closing with a ? GPA. Blaydes received the presitigous President's Council Academic Excellence award in 2019 and also earned Commissioner's Academic Excellence honors four times as an Ace.
All former student-athletes who earned an undergraduate degree from an NCAA member school are eligible to be nominated by that school for an NCAA graduate degree scholarship, regardless of when they received their undergraduate degree.Â
"I would like to thank the University of Evansville for everything that it has offered me," remarked Blaydes on the scholarship. "Without the University and everybody associated with it this would not have been possible."
The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage graduate education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship and/or emerging sports. Athletics and academic achievements, campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership are evaluated.
