Previewing the Matchup: Miami (Ohio)
- Evansville and Miami (Ohio) are meeting for the third time in series history with the Redhawks owning a 2-1 margin in the series.
- The Redhawks won the last meeting between the two sides, 72-64, in Oxford, Ohio last season.
- In last season's meeting, Lola Bracy led the Aces with 17 points, while Abby Feit added a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
- Miami (Ohio) last played on Tuesday when the Redhawks opened MAC play against Central Michigan, falling to the Chippewas, 69-51.
- Miami (Ohio) was picked to finish ninth in the 12-team MAC in the conference's preseason poll. The favorite in the MAC is Central Michigan, who has won four-straight MAC regular season titles.
- The Redhawks have been paced early on by a trio of double-figure scorers, led by sophomore guard Peyton Scott, who is averaging 18 points per contest.
- Evansville is looking to make it three-straight wins with a victory over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday afternoon. It would mark the Aces first three-game winnings streak since UE ran off six straight victories during the 2016-17 season.
- The Aces are also in search of their best start since the 2008-09 season, when Evansville began the campaign with a 4-1 record and eventually captured the 2009 MVC Tournament Championship.
The Importance of Defense
- In both of Evansville's wins this season, Evansville has been strong on the defensive end, limiting its opponents to 60 or less points.
- Since head coach Matt Ruffing took over the program late in the 2015-16 season, the Aces have held opponents to 60-or-less points 25 times, holding an 18-7 mark in such games, including a 3-1 record over the last two seasons.
Diversifying the Offense
- In recent seasons, Evansville has been known for relying on shots from beyond the arc to fuel its offense.
- This is not true this season, as the Aces have attempted just 39 three-pointers through three games, hitting 17 for a strong 43.6%.
- A season ago through three contests, Evansville had already attempted 99 threes, hitting 21, a 21.1% clip.
