CARBONDALE, Ill. - Coming off a strong performance on the road on Friday night, the University of Evansville women's basketball team looks to put the momentum to good use in a matchup with Southern Illinois in Carbondale, Ill. at 2 PM on Sunday afternoon.
Last Game: No. 18 Missouri State 76, Evansville 62
- Evansville was led by freshman Abby Feit in both points and rebounds as Feit scored a game-high 17 points and recorded nine rebounds.
- Two other Aces finished in double figures as junior Lola Bracy tallied 12 points and a career-high eight assists to go along with five rebounds, while sophomore A'Niah Griffin hit two three-pointers on her way to 10 points and five boards.
- Alex Willard finished as the high-scorer for the Lady Bears, scoring 14 points.
- Impressive second and fourth quarter performances against the nation's 18th-ranked team helped buoy the Aces.
- It was a 9-3 lead to begin for the Lady Bears as both sides struggled offensively in the opening portions of the contest.
- The Aces trailed by as many as nine in the first quarter, but closed back withing six as sophomore Anna Newman drained a three in the waning second of the quarter to cut Missouri State's lead to 17-11.
- The second quarter saw Evansville keep pace with the Lady Bears every step of the way. After Missouri State pushed its lead to 10 with four-straight points to start the period, Evansville answered with a triple by sophomore A'Niah Newman to cut the deficit back to seven.
- An important stretch for the Aces came with seven minutes left in the half. Redshirt junior Jada Poland scored five-straight points, including a three-point play that moved Evansville within three at 25-22 and went to the break down just six.
- The Lady Bears took control in the third quarter, scoring 10-straight points out of the break that inflated their lead to 16 at 44-28.
- Evansville struggled to keep control of the ball, turning it over five times in the quarter and being out-rebounded 16-6, trailing 59-41 heading into the fourth period.
- The Aces didn't go away in the fourth, continuing to fight. Despite trailing by as many as 20 in the early portion of the quarter, Evansville closed back within 12 in the final minutes with an impressive late effort in Missouri State's 76-62 win.
Previewing the Matchup
- Evansville and SIU are meeting for the 62nd time with the Salukis holding a 33-28 lead in the series.
- The Aces and Salukis met earlier this season inside Meeks Family Fieldhouse as SIU overcame a 12-point second-half deficit to earn a 70-57 win over Evansville on Jan. 24.
- Evansville is in search of its first win over the Salukis since a 74-61 triumph over SIU in Carbondale on Feb. 17, 2017.
- The Aces are nearing the year mark since their last MVC victory, defeating Indiana State on the road, 59-56, on March 3, 2019.
- In Friday night's contest at No. 18 Missouri State, the Aces snapped an eight-game streak in which they had been held to less than 60 points, tied for the longest streak since at least the 1980-81 season.
- Freshman Abby Feit continued her exceptional freshman campaign, scoring 17 points and pulling down nine rebounds in an efficient shooting performance. Feit went 6-9 from the field and an impressive 4-5 from beyond the arc. Feit also limited her turnovers, committing just one in 35 minutes of play.
- Junior Lola Bracy tied a season-high for the Aces with eight assists against the 18th-ranked Lady Bears. The eight assists were a career high for Bracy and tied Anna Newman's eight assists recorded against SIUE on Nov. 13 for the most by an Ace this season.
- Southern Illinois enters the weekend fresh off a 60-42 win over Indiana State on Friday evening that snapped a three-game losing streak for the Salukis. The win helped SIU keep pace with the middle pack in The Valley and in the thick of the battle for fourth in the league.
