Box Score NASHVILLE - Battling the second ranked Commodores, the University of Evansville baseball team put forth a good showing, falling to Vanderbilt, 6-0, on Tuesday evening in Nashville.

After Evansville went down in order to start the first, Vanderbilt got on the board quickly, scoring a run on an RBI groundout by Ty Duvall with one out in the inning.

Evansville did a good job of executing defensively, getting a pair of shutout innings from Tyler Denu and Drew Dominik that held Vandy's advantage to 1-0 through three.

Following a second Vanderbilt run in the bottom of the fourth, the Aces threatened in the top of the fifth. Troy Beilsmith walked to lead the inning, and after a pop up, Brent Widder became the second Ace to walk in the inning. With two runners on and just one out, Vanderbilt starter Jack Leiter shut down Evansville, striking out a batter and inducing a foul out.

Vanderbilt scored another run in the fifth, boosting its advantage to 4-0, but Evansville again looked to chip away at the Commodores' lead. In the top of the sixth, the Aces were dealt to quick outs, but battled back, loading the bases after Indiana Stanley singled to the shortstop and Mark Shallenberger and Beilsmith were each hit by a pitch. With the bases juiced, Vanderbilt closed the inning, striking out an Aces.

The Commodores would go on to add a fourth run in the fifth and two more in the sixth, securing the 6-0 win.

Evansville hosts its first series in the River City this weekend on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday when the Aces host Butler at Bosse Field.
