EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville Track and Field team is honored by three student-athletes being named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team, announced by the conference office.
Anna Lowry earned the recognition after a fantastic indoor championship, including becoming the first UE athlete to earn all-MVC honors in program history, while finishing second in the 5,000-meter (16:53.18) and third in the 3,000-meter (9:50.99) runs, setting school records in both. Lowry is a junior in athletic training holding a 3.80 GPA.
Izzy Dawson put up points for the Aces with an eighth-place finish in the 800-menter run (2:25.90) to earn MVC honorable mention honors. Dawson earned scholar-athlete recognition with a 3.75 GPA in marketing.
Ian Alberts posted a tie for eighth place in the pole vault, setting a 4.66-meter attempt. Alberts majors in biology and holds a 4.00 GPA.
This year the MVC recognized 131 for their performance in the classroom and the sport of track and field. The conference modified the award criteria to considered for the student-athletes during the COVID-19 pandemic and cancellation for the MVC Outdoor Championship.
To be considered each student-athlete had to meet a 3.3. GPA, at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing, placed in the top eight of an individual event or top three in a relay at the indoor championship, or been schedule to participate in the outdoor meet this spring and has meet the athletic criteria in previous MVC championships during their career.
