NORMAN, Okla. – Three University of Evansville men's golfers were recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) as Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars.
Earning the awards for the Purple Aces were senior Matthew Ladd, junior Spencer Wagner and sophomore Dallas Koth. It was a record setting year for the award as 614 student-athletes earned the title of All-America Scholar, the most since the awards inception in 1982. Of the 614 honorees, 376 players were Division I selections, 99 in Division II, 108 in Division III, 18 from NAIA, and 12 from NJCAA. 2020 marks the first year in which Sophomores are eligible for the award.
"There have been several times where we have had one or two players earn the award, but to have three is an outstanding accomplishment," Aces head golf coach Jim Hamilton said. "It is a great day for our program and I could not be more proud of our guys for the work they put forth in the classroom and on the golf course."
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20, they must participate in 40% of the team's competitive rounds.
A Criminal Justice major, Matthew Ladd recorded a 3.547 GPA. On the course, the Evansville native wrapped up his career with one of the lowest averages in UE history. His 75.88 tally put him ninth in the Aces record books. As a senior, he was second on the squad with a 73.18 average. At the EKU Raising Canes Invitational, he carded a career-low 66 in the final round. It was tied for the third-lowest round in program history.
Junior Spencer Wagner is a Management major with a 3.506 GPA. Wagner also calls the city of Evansville home. He completed his junior campaign with a 74.10 average, which was highlighted by a season-best 68 at the APSU Intercollegiate. It tied for the 5
th-lowest round in UE history. His spring season was highlighted by a tie for 7
th place at the Don Benbow Invitational.
Dallas Koth garnered the honor as the GCAA recognized sophomores with the accolade for the first time in 2020. In the classroom, the Bloomington, Ill. product has accumulated a 3.652 GPA. Koth was equally successful on the links, pacing the team, with a 72.90 stroke average. His top finish of the season was a second place at the ASU Spring Classic. In the second round, he recorded a 67, tying for the 4
th-lowest total in the UE record books.
