Jahns Shatters Records In Aces Return to the Pool

CARBONDALE, IL. – After over a month break, the University of Evansville swimming and diving teams return to the pool for their meet against Southern Illinois and Illinois State in Shea Natatorium on Friday.

The break proved beneficial for Sarah Jahns, who won three events and set two new school records in the pool on Friday. She already held the program best time in the 200-yard back stroke but bested that time to improve to 2:00.96. Jahns also took the top spot in program history in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:14.99), while also finishing first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.48.

Jessie Steel too third in the 100-yard freestyle at the eighth fastest pace in school history at 52.36, while Iryna Tsesiul took fourth in the 200-yard backstroke, marking the sixth fastest in that event in school history at 2:04.84.

Alex Markl earned her name in the record books in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:03.62, finishing third, and the 200-yard freestyle at 1:53.65, finishing fourth.

Jackson Caudill took the 1000-yard freestyle at 9:38.68, earning him first in the event.

Riccardo Domenico swam a 49.79 in the 100-yard freestyle, earning first in the event, while also coming in second in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:39.87, which was the fifth best pace in school history. Griffin Hammett placed third in the 200-yard butterfly at 1:53.82, earning him eight on the all-time swims list.

Natalie Gerard (221.30) and Slayden Reed (163.30) both got second place in their 1-meter dives. As a team UE battled, but fell against Southern Illinois and Illinois State. The men lost 91-196 to SIU, while the women went down 110-187 against the Salukis.

The women also lost 128-166 to Illinois State. The Purple Aces are now on to their conference meets. The men will compete on April 8th for the Mid-American Conference title and the women will compete on April 15th for the Missouri Valley Conference championship.
