ST. LOUIS - After an exemplary season on the pitch, University of Evansville freshman midfielder Pablo Guillen has been named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, along with receiving two other honors, it was announced in a release by the conference office on Thursday morning.

Guillen, a freshman midfielder from La Coruna, Spain, was the leading scorer for the Aces, tallying four goals, playing and starting all 10 matches this season. Guillen becomes the sixth player in program history to be named MVC Freshman or Newcomer of the Year, the first since Mathias Nors earned the honor following the 2018 campaign. Twice, the freshman dazzled with golazos, including a volley from 35 yards out that finished as the No. 5 play on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays after a home contest against Missouri State.

Guillen also earned second-team all-MVC honors and was selected to the Conference's all-freshman team, becoming the first Evansville player to win a specialty award and be named to the top two all-conference teams since Robby Lynch was first-team all-Conference and Defensive Player of the Year in 2010.
