EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Evansville swimming and diving teams will head north on Friday for their final dual meet of the 2021-22 season, as the Purple Aces will compete against the nationally-ranked Indiana University Hoosiers. The meet is set to begin at 2 p.m. eastern (1 p.m. central) at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Indiana.
"Friday is really all about racing," said UE head swimming and diving coach Stuart Wilson. "This is a great opportunity for the teams to race against a very strong team in Indiana, and I think that this experience will help them as we head towards the conference championships.
"With three weeks until the women's conference meet, and about five-six weeks until the men's championships, this meet is a good way to finish the teams' successful seasons this year. I'm looking forward to seeing how the team will handle themselves against a team like Indiana."
Evansville will enter Friday's dual meet at 4-0 on the men's side and 5-1 on the women's side in dual meet action. The Purple Aces last competed on January 15 at Bellarmine, when UE was able to sweep the Knights in Louisville. Junior Sarah Jahns (Lilburn, Ga./Parkview) paced a short-handed UE women's team to a 142-118 victory with three individual victories in three swims.Â
Meanwhile, on the men's side, freshman Daniel Santos Lopez (Madrid, Spain) was undefeated in two relays and two individual events to help UE to a 156-106 victory while earning Mid-American Conference male swimmer of the week honors.
Friday's opponent will be the toughest of the year for UE, as Indiana will enter the meet ranked fifth nationally on the men's side and 13
th nationally on the women's side in the latest College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top 25. The IU men have won 14-straight dual meets dating back to 2019, while the Indiana women are 6-2 on the season.
