EVANSVILLE, Ind. –The University of Evansville track and field teams will return to action on Saturday, as the Purple Aces will travel west to Carbondale, Illinois to take part in the Don DeNoon Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois.  The meet will begin at 11:30 a.m. central time.

Evansville last competed on Friday, January 21 when the Purple Aces took part in the Bellarmine Open.  UE set school records in both the men's and women's distance medley relay races at Bellarmine, while also setting eight personal-best standards.  UE has set a new school record and established eight personal-best marks in each of its first two indoor meets this year.

"We have had a pretty good start to the indoor season this year," said UE head track and field coach Don Walters.  "We'll see a good deal of competition on Saturday, and I am very interested to see how we will compete.  We really need the competition right now."

On the men's side, senior thrower Mike Boots (Evansville, Ind./Mater Dei) has gotten off to a strong start, winning the shot put at the Bellarmine Open, while finishing in the top five of all four throwing events he has competed in this season.  Senior Trey Riggs (Ft. Branch, Ind./Gibson Southern) also set the indoor school record in the long jump in UE's first meet of the season.

Meanwhile, on the women's side, graduate student Anna Lowry (Taylorville, Ill./Taylorville) has won the 3,000-meter event in each of her first two indoor meets of the year in convincing fashion.  While senior Sam Weldon (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) has set new personal-best marks in the 800-meters in each of the two meets this year.
