  • The Aces and Bruins are meeting for the 19th time in series history with Belmont owning a 13-5 advantage in the all-time series.
  • Belmont comes into the midweek matchup with a 10-3 record. Both teams have taken on Dayton in recent weeks with the Flyers taking two-of-three from both the Aces and Bruins.
  • The Bruins are the second of three non-conference opponents the Aces will face this year that will soon be conference foes. Last weekend, the Aces took on UIC, and later this year, Murray State and Evansville will meet with all three teams joining the MVC next season.
  • Following the midweek matchup with Belmont, Evansville continues its loaded schedule with a trip to face #18 Tulane in a three-game series.

Aces sweep weekly MVC honors
  • After a pair of impressive weeks, Tanner Craig and Shane Gray were named Missouri Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
  • More of the norm than not, Craig put on a show last week at the plate. On the week in four games, Craig hit well for average, finish 9-for-20 on the weekend with a .450 batting average, while blasting four home runs, including three in one day in Saturday's doubleheader against Ohio and UIC. Craig also tallied 10 RBIs on the week, helping the Aces pick up a pair of wins. The senior now leads the Aces in average, hitting .319 on the season.
  • Continuing to produce impressive performances on the mound, Gray was lights out for the Aces on Friday night. Facing UIC, Gray lasted 6.2 innings, allowing two runs and striking-out 10 batters in the 4-2 win. Gray's 19 strikeouts on the season are third-most in the MVC.
  • The honor is the third in the career of both Craig and Gray and the first that either member of the duo has earned in 2022.

Strikeout Kings

  • Evansville's pitching staff was on another level on Friday night against UIC.
  • The Aces staff combined to throw 16 strikeouts, led by starter Shane Gray with 10, while relievers Jakob Meyer and Nate Hardman had four and two strikeouts, respectively.
  • The feat marked the first time since March 23, 2018 that the Aces had struck and opponent out more than 15 times.
