Women's Basketball trio hauls in postseason MVC awards

3/9/2022 12:44:00 AM

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - In recognition of their regular season efforts, three members of the University of Evansville women's basketball team were honored with postseason awards from the Missouri Valley Conference, it was announced in a release from the conference office on Wednesday morning.

For the first time since 2016-17, the Aces had a player selected to the MVC First Team as junior Abby Feit captured top honors. Joining Feit with all-conference recognition was junior Je'Naiya Davis, who was named honorable mention all-conference. Davis earned another honor, along with fellow backcourt mate Myia Clark, as both were named to the MVC all-newcomer team.

"I'm very proud of Abby, Je'Naiya, and Myia and the seasons they had. They have been instrumental in the growth of our program and it is wonderful that they have earned these honors," said Aces head women's basketball coach Robyn Scherr-Wells. "I'm grateful that the growth of our program has been recognized as these three wouldn't be in this position if it weren't for the competitive play of our entire team."

Recognized in The Valley's postseason awards in all three of her collegiate seasons, Feit put on another impressive show in the 2021-22 campaign. Feit finished the regular season averaging 14.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest, both top five in the MVC in their respective categories. The Normal, Ill. native led the Aces in minutes, field goal percentage, three-pointers made, rebounds, and blocks. The first-team honor adds to an already full trophy cabinet for the junior, who was named league freshman of the year in 2020 and received honorable mention all-conference recognition a season ago.

Entering the fold for her first season in white and purple, Davis made her mark early often for the Aces. Davis concluded the regular season as Evansville's leading scorer, averaging 15.3 points per game, good enough to place her in fourth in the MVC. Davis has scored in double-figures 19 times this season, including five performances of 20-or-more points. Early this season against Purdue Fort Wayne, Davis poured-in 35 points, the most ever scored by an Ace in regulation.

Joining Davis on the all-newcomer team, senior Myia Clark made an immediate impact for the Aces. Clark joined Davis and Feit in averaging double figures on the season, placing all three inside the top 12 in The Valley in scoring. A member of Evansville's high-scoring trio, Clark had three games of 20+ points on the season. The Schaumburg, Ill. native also recorded the second-most rebounds on the team, averaging 4.6 per game.

Evansville opens the postseason on Thursday afternoon in Hoops in the Heartland as the No. 9 seed, taking on eighth-seeded Indiana State at 4 PM inside the TaxSlayer Center in Moline, Ill.
