EVANSVILLE, Ind. –The University of Evansville swimming and diving program has announced plans to establish the Jason D. Morse '98 Memorial Endowed Scholarship. Morse passed away in 2017 after a three-and-a-half year battle with Adult Recurrent Wilms Cancer.
Morse attended UE from 1994 through 1998, where he excelled as a distance freestyle swimmer for the UE swimming & diving program. Morse placed fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in the 1,650-yard freestyle as a freshman, while placing eighth as a sophomore. He also was the first Purple Ace to break the 4:40 barrier in the 500-yard freestyle, as he left UE holding the school record in the event with a time of 4:39.36. Jason was also involved in the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity during his time at UE.
A fundraising initiative is now being established to honor Jason in pursuit of a scholarship in his name with an initial goal of $50,000. Once the fundraising goal has been met, an endowed fund will be created. This fund will be restricted solely for an athletics scholarship given to a men's or women's swimming & diving student-athlete. This endowed fund will be named the Jason D. Morse '98 Memorial Scholarship, and will have a lasting impact on the UE swimming & diving program.
People interested in donating to the Jason D. Morse '98 Memorial Scholarship fund can give directly online at the following website:
