EVANSVILLE - After opening the season with four-straight results, the University of Evansville men's soccer team begins Missouri Valley Conference play against SIUE on Saturday at 6 PM at Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville.
Â
The Aces start to the season marks the first time UE has entered conference play unbeaten since the 1990 season when Evansville opened the year with a 5-0 win over Eastern Illinois before opening MCC action against SLU. After opening with a 2-2 road draw with Bellarmine, UE captured 3-1 and 3-0 victories over IUPUI and UIW, respectively. Evansville is ranked in the top 50 in the nation in 12 statistical categories, including 16th in shots per game and 17th in assists per game. Individually, sophomore Nacho Diaz leads the team with four goals and his one-goal per game pace is third best in the nation.Â
SIUE enters the weekend matchup with a 3-2-1 record and is coming off a 4-1 loss to Saint Louis on Tuesday night in the Bronze Boot game. The Cougars attack is similarly led by a sophomore from Spain in Pau Palacin, who has scored five times through six matches in 2022.
The first two home regular season contests of 2022 have featured incredible atmospheres with a combined 2,102 fans packing the stands so far this season, putting Evansville in 30th in the nation in average attendance. Saturday's contest is part of family weekend at the University of Evansville as well as being Boy Scout Night. Along with those two promotions, the concession stand at Arad McCutchan Stadium will be selling hot dogs for just $1!
