ST. LOUIS - Off to an unbeaten start to the season, University of Evansville men's soccer's Nacho Diaz and Alex Vidizzoni swept this week's Missouri Valley Conference honors it was announced in a release from the Conference office.
For the first time since August 29, 2017, Evansville took both the offensive and defensive player of the week honors with sophomore forward Nacho Diaz capturing the offensive award and graduate goalkeeper Alex Vidizzoni earning defensive player of the week recognition.
An impressive start to his collegiate career continued for Nacho Diaz in the Aces Missouri Valley Conference opener. Facing SIUE on Saturday, Diaz found the back of the net twice, recording a match-best six shots and helping lead Evansville to a 2-0 win over the Cougars. The goals marked Diaz's fifth and sixth on the season in just five matches. Diaz's six goals are already the most by an Ace in a season since Ian McGrath scored 12 times in 2017. Diaz leads the nation in goals per game, averaging 1.2 per match, and points per match with 2.6 per contest.
Marking his third-straight clean sheet, Alex Vidizzoni has proven to be a force for the Aces. In a 2-0 shutout of MVC foe SIUE, Vidizzoni recorded three saves, pushing his shutout streak to 307 minutes, dating back to a 53rd-minute goal by IUPUI on August 28th. Vidizzoni is second in The Valley in shutouts with three, while holding the third-best goals-against average with a 0.60 GAA, the 22nd-best mark in the nation
Evansville continues its season at 6 PM on Tuesday night against No. 24 Xavier at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
