Aces Suffer First MVC Loss Against Bowling Green

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville men's soccer team suffered its first Missouri Valley Conference loss of the season on Saturday night, falling 1-0 to Bowling Green.

Prior to the match, Evansville celebrated Senior Night by honoring nine seniors - Hugo Amo, Will Bencic, Pablo Calvete, Carlos Iglesias, Álvaro Timón, Kyle Kimberling, Lionel Williams, Nick Lazarski, and Aron Böcking Gerken. The senior class has made significant contributions to the program throughout its tenure, including an MVC Tournament Championship title in 2024 and an MVC Regular Season title in 2025.

The opening 20 minutes of the match featured plenty of action, as both teams were reduced to 10 players following a red card to each side. Bowling Green also received a yellow card during the stretch, while both teams created multiple scoring opportunities.

Amo came up with important saves early in the opening half, denying the Falcons in the 21st and 29th minutes. The teams traded chances to close out the half scoreless.

The Aces created their best opportunity of the night in the 51st minute when Izán Redondo sent a shot just wide of the goal. Bowling Green responded with a chance of its own, finding the back of the net in the 54th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Evansville responded with sustained pressure following the goal, recording eight shots over the next 20 minutes. The stretch included a five-minute span where the Aces attempted six shots, with Redondo creating another opportunity before his attempt was saved by the Bowling Green goalkeeper.

The Aces continued to push for the equalizer throughout the remainder of the match, finishing with 10 shots over the final 15 minutes, including six on goal. However, the Falcons turned away Evansville's attempts and secured the 1-0 victory.

With the loss, Evansville falls to 3-7-2 overall and 2-1-0 in MVC play. The Aces are back on the road Tuesday, traveling to Madison, Wis. to face the No. 18 Wisconsin Badgers.
