ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Marc Martin has been named Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
Martin earned the honor after helping lead Evansville to a pair of wins last week, scoring a goal and playing all 180 minutes across the two matches. He helped anchor a defense that recorded a 3-0 shutout victory over Bradley on Friday, marking the team's fifth clean sheet of the season. Martin's goal was also his first of the season.
The junior transfer from Spain has been a major contributor in his first season with the Aces. He has started 15 of Evansville's 16 matches, playing all 90 minutes in 11 contests. His 1,243 minutes rank third on the team. Martin has played a significant role in a defense that ranks third in the MVC, allowing 1.38 goals per game. He has also contributed offensively with two assists to go along with Friday's goal.
The weekly honor marks the first MVC recognition of Martin's career.
Martin and the Purple Aces return to Arad McCutchan Stadium tomorrow night to host Belmont in their regular-season finale, with a chance to clinch the MVC regular-season title. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., with the match streaming live on ESPN+.
