ST. LOUIS – After combining for Evansville's first shutout of a Top-25 opponent since 2010 on Saturday against #18 Kentucky, University of Evansville pitchers Kevin Reed (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) and Tanner Graham (Rocheport, Mo./Hickman) have been named the MVC Pitcher and Freshman of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The duo limited the Wildcats to four hits and four walks on the day, needing only 129 pitches to complete the shutout. It marked the first time that Kentucky had been blanked since being shut out by LSU in eight innings on May 22, 2024. Reed earned the win, firing six innings, striking out five and allowing only three hits. Graham secured the save, the first of his career, pitching the final three innings of the game while limiting the Wildcats to one hit.
The shutout was Evansville's first of the season and first over a ranked opponent since a 2-0 shutout of #10 Pepperdine on March 7, 2010. The win also served as the Aces' first win over a ranked opponent since a 10-8 win over #1 Tennessee in game two of the 2024 Knoxville Super Regional.
The Pitcher of the Week nod is the second of Reed's career, having earned the honor on March 11 of last season. Graham's Freshman of the Week honor is the first weekly MVC award of his career.
