ST. LOUIS – Following Evansville's fourth consecutive MVC series win, University of Evansville outfielder Reid Haire (Hudson, N.C./Charlotte) has been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. Evansville has now won the award in back-to-back weeks, with Drew McConnell (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) taking home the award last Monday.
Haire had a huge week at the plate, hitting .556 (10-for-18) in four games. The junior slugged three home runs to go along with three doubles, posting a slugging percentage of 1.222. Haire scored seven runs and drove in seven to help power the Aces to a series win at Belmont. In Sunday's rubber match, Haire went 4-for-4 with a home run and a double to help the Aces clinch the series.
Haire has enjoyed a strong season in his first year in the River City, starting all 37 games in center field. Serving as a catalyst of the Evansville lineup, Haire ranks third on the team in batting average at .266 and third in OPS at .856. His seven home runs are tied for the team lead, while his 23 RBIs lead the team.
The Aces are back in action on Wednesday, taking on crosstown rival USI. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at USI Baseball Field.
