NASHVILLE – The University of Evansville track & field team completed day one of the Outdoor Music City Challenge on Friday, highlighted by Rafael Rodriguez (Segovia, Spain/Colegio Claret) breaking the program 1500 meter record for the second week in a row with a time of 3:41.71.
Women
Two Aces competed in the javelin, with Holland Morris (Florence, Ky./Randall K. Cooper) placing 15th at 27.58 meters and Emma Bertel (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) placing 19th with a mark of 25.76 meters. Bertel and Morris also competed in the discus, with Bertel placing tenth at 38.33 meters and Morris placing 20th at 22.61 meters.
Josie Seehafer (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) had a strong performance in the long jump, placing fifth with a mark of 5.35 meters.
Kyndall Anthis (Patoka, Ind./Princeton Community) placed 20th in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:51.09.
Taylor Johnson (Evansville, Ind./Reitz) placed 20th in the 200 meters, while Mallory Hagan (Henderson, Ky./Henderson County) placed 46th at 28.56 and Clara Kelty (Louisville, Ky./Presentation Academy) placed 47th at 28.59.
Chase Hayes (Noblesville, Ind./Western) and Amick McClelland (Quincy, Ill./Quincy) competed in the 1500 meters, with Hayes placing 20th with a time of 4:38.79 and McClelland placing 41st at 4:52.74.
In the 5000 meters, Avery Stephens (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) took 24th with a time of 17:32.78.
Men
Cole Johnson (Salem, Ill./Salem Community) started off the day for the Aces, placing fourth in the javelin with a mark of 47.50 meters. Johnson also competed in the discus and placed ninth at 41.47 meters, while Tyler Cherne (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) placed 13th at 38.89 meters.
Josiah Hoehn (Hazel Crest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and Brody Riggs (Fort Branch, Ind./Gibson Southern) competed in the 110 meter hurdles, with Hoehn placing 14th at 15.21 and Riggs placing 15th at 15.22.
Three Aces competed in the 3000 meters, with Andrew Potter (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community) taking 18th with a time of 9:00.86, followed by Nicholas HIrsch (Evansville, Ind./Memorial) in 20th at 9:08.76 and Oliver Wilgocki (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) in 21st at 9:15.26.
In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Woody Burrell (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) placed 17th with a time of 10:07.12.
Three Aces competed in the 200 meters, led by Hoehn in 19th at 21.98 and followed by Myles Terry (Evansville, Ind./North) in 26th at 22.35 and Connor Shin (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North) placing 36th at 22.87.
Rodriguez finished third in his record breaking effort in the 1500 meters, while his time of 3:41.71 is the best in the Missouri Valley Conference this season. Jake Antibus (Switz City, Ind./White River Valley) took 53rd at 4:06.20, while Hayden Wannemuehler (Evansville, Ind./Mater Dei) placed 57th at 4:12.69.
Nathan Campbell (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North) paced three Aces in the 5000 meters with a 29th place finish at 14:59.63, while Tanner Spence (Carmi, Ill./Carmi) placed 34th at 15:09.32 and Nathan Whitehead (Vincennes, Ind./South Knox) placed 37th at 15:14.55.
