EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women's soccer team won their home opener Thursday night with a strong performance, picking up their first win of the season 2-0 over SEMO.
The Aces and SEMO held each other scoreless in the first half, with Evansville leading 7-2 in shots. Ella Hamner (Evansville, Ind./Memorial HS) broke the scoreless tie in the 64th minute with a header off a corner kick from junior Brielle LaBerge (Cumming, Ga./Forsyth Central HS).
Sophomore Izzie Ryan (Evansville, Ind./Castle HS) added to the Aces lead in the 85th minute, scoring her first career goal from long range. Freshman Mia Lancaster (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) provided the assist in her first game as an Ace.
Evansville won the shot battle led by Taylor Johnson (Evansville, Ind./Reitz HS) with 4 shots on goal and Josie Seehafer (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) with 2 shots on goal.
Emma Nathans (Toronto, Ontario/Havergal College) played all 90 minutes in goal for Evansville, making two saves to post her first collegiate shutout. This marks the first time the Aces have won their home opener in shutout fashion since 2021.
The result is Evansville's second consecutive win against SEMO after beating the Redhawks 4-3 in Cape Girardeau to begin the regular season last year.
The Aces return to action next Thursday back at home, hosting Lindenwood at Arad McCutchan Stadium for Alumni Weekend. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
