NORMAL, Ill. – Jane Grankina was the top finisher for the University of Evansville women's golf team at the season-opening Redbird Invitational at Weibring Golf Club.
Final Results
After opening with a score of 83 (+11), Grankina posted an even round of 72 to complete the first day. In Monday's final round, Grankina finished at 4-over to secure a tie for 39
th in the final standings.
Tying for second on the Purple Aces squad and 72
nd on the individual leaderboard was the duo of Trinity Dubbs and Mia McGraw. Dubbs opened play with an 82 (+10) before finishing with scores of 87 and 83. McGraw posted a 94 in the opening round before making a huge improvement over the remainder of the event. She wrapped up the second round with a 78 (+6) before recording an 80 (+8) in the third round.
Adline Wittmer was next for UE. She began the weekend with an 85 (+13) and followed with her low score of the event – an 83 (+11). Wittmer finished the final round with a 19-over 91. Frankie Leigh Nicholes rounded out the team. Her low round of the tournament came in the second 18 where she shot an 11-over 83.
Evansville took 13
th in the final standings while St. Thomas picked up the win. The Tommies finished the tournament at 13-over to defeat Augusta by two strokes. Kathryn VanArragon of St. Thomas was the medalist. She completed her three rounds at 3-under.
The Purple Aces return to the course for the NKU Fall Invitational from Sept. 28-29.
