University of Evansville Athletics

OXFORD, Ohio – Wren Jones and Ryan Scheu were the top performers for the University of Evansville softball team in a 3-1 loss to Kansas City in the final contest of the Miami Best Western Invitational.
 
Jones led the way with 14 kills while Scheu added 10. Kendall Agler registered a career-high 22 digs while Carsyn Kelley added 11 digs to go along with 40 assists. Ryanne Wattree led the Kangaroos with 19 kills.
 
Set 1 – Kansas City 26, UE 24
 
After jumping out to a 4-1 advantage, the Kangaroos continued their strong start going up 10-4. The Purple Aces worked their way back and took the lead on the strength of a 5-0 run. Trailing 13-9, Wren Jones picked up a pair of kills that gave her team a 14-13 lead. Kansas City regained a 22-19 lead but another Evansville run tied the score with Lyla Fisher picking up an ace and Jones notching another kill. With the set tied at 24-24, KC added the final two points to take the set.
 
Set 2 – UE 25, Kansas City 23
 
The teams swapped the lead on multiple occasions before Kansas City grabbed an 11-9 lead. Back-to-back kills by Makenzie Miller capped a 3-0 stretch that gave the Aces a 12-11 advantage. Two KC errors solidified a 16-14 UE lead before the Kangaroos jumped back in front at 17-16. Back-and-forth action continued with the Aces taking their largest lead at 22-17 with Jones picking up two more kills. Carsyn Kelley picked up an ace while Ryan Scheu and Sabrina Ripple posted kills during the stretch. It was a kill by Scheu that clinched the set to tie the match at 1-1.
 
Set 3 – Kansas City 25, UE 15
 
In the early moments, the teams battled to a 4-4 tie before Kansas City scored three in a row to take the lead for good. After opening a 14-6 advantage, the Kangaroos took a 2-1 match lead with a 25-15 decision.
 
Set 4 – Kansas City 25, UE 19
 
Kansas City scored the opening six points on the way to clinching the match. Evansville did its best to stage a late rally as they trimmed a 21-12 deficit down to 24-19 on a Brooke Herdes ace. The Kangaroos were able to score the final point to win by a 25-19 final.
