After helping Lindsey Wilson College to a national tournament berth last fall, Josh Oldroyd was named to theĀ the University of Evansville men's soccer coaching staff on July 27, 2016.
"It's fantastic to be a part of this program," Oldroyd said. "I have only known Marshall and Ian for a short period of time, but it is clear from the time I have spent with them that they are fantastic people and coaches and have every interest in bringing consistent success to this program. I am thrilled to be on board at such a historic soccer program. I can't wait to get started."
Oldroyd, who served as the goalkeeping coach for the Blue Raiders last season, helped the perennial NAIA powerhouse to a 14-5-2 record, peaking as high as No. 6 in the national Top 25 poll.
"Josh worked for one of the giants in college soccer at Lindsey Wilson," UE head coach Marshall Ray said. "Ray Wells and his program are proven winners, and Josh was fortunate to have gained that experience on his staff. Josh is going to step into our program and have a huge impact from day one."
Under Oldroyd's tutelage, goalkeeper Yuta Nomura excelled, posting 11 shutouts over the course of 21 starts. He stopped nearly 75% of the shots that came his way, posting a 0.93 goals-against average in the process.
Oldroyd was also tasked with heading up the school's junior varsity team, which ended the year 3-3-2 and posted an impressive 3-0 victory at eventual Mid-South Conference champion Campbellsville.
Oldroyd's main duties with UE will involve training the team's young goalkeeping unit as well as working with the overall defensive strategy and scouting. In addition, he'll be charged with managing the team's nutrition plan and travel.
"Josh has had success with molding young keepers, and he's going to be able to step in immediately to work with our group," Ray explained. "We have three guys this season hungry to compete for that starting spot. He's going to have a huge impact with those three, and he has a great energy about him too. I know it will rub off on both the players and the staff."
Prior to beginning his coaching career, Oldroyd enjoyed a stellar playing career with Bryan College, which is also in the NAIA. The Leeds, England, native was a three-time all-league honoree, capping his senior season with the Appalachian Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year award. In his time in with the Lions, he helped the team claim both a regular season and tournament crown.
Before his move to the U.S., Oldroyd spent time with Altofts FC in West Yorkshire, England, as well, and he played a part in the club's U19 squad lifting the Northern Alliance Premier League title in 2011. He also competed with the Leeds United FC academy as well as with NEW College Pontefract.
