New to the University of Evansville coaching staff this year is Candice Gist, who will serve as the program’s Director of Basketball Operations.
Gist comes to UE from nearby Wabash Valley Community College in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, where she served as the Warriors’ assistant coach last season and helped with all aspects of the women’s basketball program. This season at UE, Gist will be in charge of team travel and assist with UE’s film exchange, while being in charge of the Purple Aces’ student managers.
Gist began her coaching career in 2007 at Harvest Preparatory High School in Columbus, Ohio, before moving on to Wabash Valley Community College last season.
“Candice is a very hard-working young coach who is eager to get her start at the Division I level,” said UE head coach Misty Murphy. “She has experience in running the daily operations of a program at the junior college level, and that experience will be an asset to our program. We are thrilled to have Candice as the newest member of our UE family.”
Gist played collegiately at Ohio Valley University in Vienna, West Virginia, where she was a three-year starter for the Fighting Scots. Gist ranked among the team’s top four in scoring in each of her three seasons as a starter, while compiling over 764 points offensively. A backcourt leader for the Fighting Scots, Gist racked up 58 three-point field goals made in her three seasons as a starter, while also swiping 66 steals defensively.
Gist graduated from Ohio Valley with a degree in psychology in 2007. She is originally a native of Dayton, Ohio.
