Hillary Beck already owns one conference championship ring as a player, and now, the former Miami University RedHawk wants to help the University of Evansville win another ring as an assistant coach.
Beck will embark on her first year as a member of the UE coaching staff this winter. A native Hoosier and former college point guard, Beck will work with the UE backcourt players.
A native of Kokomo, Indiana, Beck earned all-state honors in high school at point guard at Kokomo High School in 2001. She then took her playmaking skills east to Oxford, Ohio, where she played four seasons at Miami University. Beck helped the RedHawks to the 2004 Mid-American Conference championship as a junior, and served as team captain during her senior season in 2004-05. While in college, she also served as an assistant coach for the Cincinnati Royals AAU team in 2004, and assisted the coaches of the Indiana All-Stars in 2003.
Beck began her collegiate coaching career in 2005, as a student assistant coach at her alma mater under head coach Maria Fantanarosa. Beck then joined long-time University of Arizona coaching legend Joan Bonvicini for two seasons as a graduate assistant coach out west. While at Arizona, Beck was responsible for all video breakdown, scouting, highlights and film exchange as the Wildcats’ video coordinator.
“Hillary brings a lot of energy to our staff, and as a former college basketball point guard, she has shown to be a great leader and a proven winner as a player,” said UE head coach Misty Murphy. “Her experience as both a player and a coach, and her strong ties to the state of Indiana, will only help our program.”
Beck received her bachelor’s degree in health education in 2005 from Miami University, while minoring in coaching. She also earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Arizona in 2008.
