Mike Jacobsma will begin his second season as the Purple Aces’ recruiting coordinator this season. An energetic and enthusiastic personality with a tireless work ethic, Jacobsma also works with both the Purple Aces’ guards and post players, while directing the team’s workout and conditioning schedule.
In his first season as recruiting coordinator, Jacobsma helped the University of Evansville land a star-studded recruiting class which includes Central Texas Player of the Year Kaylan Martin, Ohio state tournament Most Valuable Player Amber Boyd, four-time all-Missouri center Samantha Heck and Atlantic Coast Conference transfer Briyana Blair, among others. He was also key in UE’s development on the court, as eight players from the 2008-09 roster set single-season career-highs on the basketball court, while helping the Purple Aces win the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title and earn a spot in the 2009 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament field.
Jacobsma came to Evansville last year after spending five years as an assistant and associate head coach at the Colorado School of Mines. Jacobsma helped the Division II Orediggers advance to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Shootout in four of his five years on staff, including helping CSM to the championship game in 2006 for the first time in school history. He helped raise the level of player at the Colorado School of Mines during his tenure, as during the 2007-08 season alone, three of his recruits earned all-RMAC honors, including the East Division Freshman of the Year Brecca Gaffney, while four Orediggers also earned Academic All-RMAC honors for their work in the classroom.
Jacobsma began his collegiate coaching career in 2001 at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. Jacobsma served as a graduate assistant coach for the Wildcats in 2001-02, before being elevated to an assistant coach the next year, and helping Wayne State to a 17-11 overall record. Jacobsma holds both his bachelor’s degree (2001) and master’s degree in education (2003) from Wayne State.
Mike and his wife, Bara, currently reside in Newburgh with their daughter, Isabelle.
