Biography

At Evansville:  Shannon Novosel is expected to vie for UE’s starting center position once again this year...One of the top defensive post players in the MVC...Has the ability to play both along the perimeter and with her back to the basket offensively...Ranks third all-time in UE history in blocks, and should rank among UE’s career leaders in rebounds and steals before the year is up...Could become the 17th player to crack the 1,000-point mark this year...Last name pronounced “NO-vuh-sell” (like the words “Nova” and “Sell” together).

2007-2008:  Novosel played in all 33 games, with 32 starts at center as a junior...Earned second team all-MVC and MVC  Scholar-Athlete team honors after ranking among the league leaders in scoring (17th-10.7 ppg), rebounding (10th-6.0 rpg), blocks (5th-1.24 bpg), and steals (13th-1.42 spg)...Led all MVC post players in steals, while also posting the eighth-best single-season block total in UE history (41)...Also ranked 10th in the MVC in league play in three-point accuracy (39.2 percent), while averaging 12.3 ppg...Reached double-figures in points 20 times and rebounds four times...Notched a 20-point, 12 rebound double-double vs. Marshall (11/9)...Also had a career-high 20 points in just 22 minutes vs. Wichita State (2/8)...Posted a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double vs. Ball State (12/8)...Tied her career-high with three blocked shots six different times, including at Kansas in the 2008 Postseason WNIT (3/24)...Earned a pair of MVC Player of the Week honors.

2006-2007:
  Appeared in 31 games with 29 starts at center... Ranked fifth on the team in scoring and third in rebounding with 7.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game...Led UE’s post players with 33 steals and finished second on the team with 19 blocks...Her 33 steals tied for third among MVC post players...Recorded eight double-figure scoring games and three double-digit rebounding totals...Posted her first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds vs. Austin Peay (12/21)...Had a career-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds against both Illinois State (2/2) and Bradley (2/11) ...Also swiped a career-high five steals at Illinois State (2/2)...An honorable mention MVC Scholar-Athlete pick.

2005-2006: 
Led UE’s rookie class in both scoring and rebounding...Played in 28 games with three starts...Averaged 3.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game...Also led UE and ranked eighth in the MVC with 19 blocked shots...Showed her versatility by ranking fourth on the team with 11 three-point field goals made...Had a season-high 10 points and five rebounds against All-American Emily Christian and Tennessee Tech (11/20)...Hauled in a season-high seven rebounds three times...Rejected a career-high three shots twice:  vs. Creighton (1/22) and at Bradley (2/4).

At Lexington Catholic:  A 2005 Kentucky All-Star at national powerhouse Lexington Catholic...A nominee for the McDonald’s High School All-America game...Finished third in the voting for the Associated Press Kentucky Player of the Year award...Led Lexington Catholic to a state championship, a 36-1 overall record, and a #6 ranking nationally as a senior...Named first-team all-state as a senior...Became the first player in Kentucky history (boy or girl) to play in four state championships...Helped the Knights to the 2001 state championship as an eighth grader...Averaged 16 points and 14 rebounds per game for her high school career...Went 158-25 in high school.
