SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Evansville volleyball team fell to a tough Missouri State team on Saturday night 3-0. The win improved Missouri State’s winning streak to 11 matches and improved them to 16-2 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in MVC play. The Aces now stand at 8-8 on the season and hold a 1-4 record in conference play.
The Aces played well in game one battling with Bears from start the finish. Midway through, UE found itself trailing 17-12. The Aces worked back into the game with a service ace from senior Julie Walroth, a kill from senior Danielle Diehl and several MSU errors and tied the game at 17. The momentum wasn’t enough as MSU closed the door with a game point service ace from Terri Del Conte. The Bears took game one win 30-26.
Game two was similar to game one with both teams playing neck and neck. The Aces trailed most of the way, but were able to tie things up again at 22-22. The Bears went on to outplay UE the rest of the way and eventually taking the win 30-27.
Game three saw a MSU team hungry for a win. Things were tight early as UE trailed 7-6, but four straight points from the Bears set the tone for the rest of the game. Missouri State won game three 30-19.
UE was led on offense by Diehl, junior Sally Kulupka and senior Anne Teegardin who all finished with seven kills. Defensively, Walroth had 21 digs to lead the way for the Aces. Diehl finished with three solo blocks and five block assists.
UE will return home to Carson Center with a pair of MVC matches next weekend. The Aces will play Creighton on Friday night and welcome Drake on Saturday. Both matches will begin at 7:00 PM.
