Southern Illinois Sweeps Evansville

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The University of Evansville volleyball team lost their second straight match in Missouri Valley Conference play against Southern Illinois on Friday night.  The Salukis swept the Aces in three games with scores of 30-22, 30-25 and 30-21.

Southern Illinois outplayed UE in game one jumping ahead 5-1 to take an early lead.  The Salukis led 25-22 and finished off the Aces in game one scoring the final five points to take the win 30-22. 

The Aces played better in game two and battled early, but fell short once again losing 30-25.  In the third and final game, the Salukis showed dominance once again and took the win easily, 30-21.

Southern Illinois had four players who finished with ten or more kills led by Jennifer Berwanger with 14 and hit for a .522 percentage.  The Aces were led by Senior Megan Spurlock who had 12 kills.  SIU dominated offensively hitting for a .292 percentage as a team and finished with 10 block assists as a team. 

The Aces will be back in action next weekend with two road matches.  On Friday September 28, UE will face Wichita State.  Then on Saturday, September 29, Evansville will battle Missouri State.  Both matches will start at 7:00 PM.
