PEORIA, Ill. -- A rainy night in Peoria seemed bright and shiny for Bradley University's Joe Donoho. He scored both goals to give the Braves a 2-0 men's soccer victory here Wednesday night over the University of Evansville.
Bradley is 7-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Evansville is 7-6-0 and 1-2-0. The Aces return home Saturday to face Eastern Illinois at 7:00 at Black Beauty Field. Saturday's match is the only one at home for Coach Mike Jacobs' squad between Oct. 10 and Nov. 10.
Donoho's goals came in the first half at 13:29 on a free kick from 20 yards, and 28:24 on a penalty kick. Bradley put three other shots on goal against Aces' goalkeeper Alec Dufty, while Evansville took a total of 13 shots, with eight on goal. However, Bradley keeper Mike Haynes turned away all eight to post the shutout. Kieran Purcell and Robby Lynch took three shots each to lead the Aces, and Lynch put all three of his on goal to lead UE in that category. Evansville was shut out for the first time this season.
"It's frustrating for the guys because they played well enough to get a point (tie), and even three (a win)," said Coach Mike Jacobs. "We had our chances, but couldn't finish. Good teams like Bradley take
advantage of opportunities and mistakes. I tip my hat to Bradley because they did a good job of
taking advantage of chances. They're a good example of where we're trying to get to as a program."
