Aces Volleyball Sweeps Southern Illinois

EVANSVILLE, Ind.--The University of Evansville volleyball team swept the Southern Illinois Salukis 3-0 in an important win at Carson Center tonight. Evansville and Southern Illinois are now both 4-6 is the Missouri Valley standings, leaving them tied for sixth place.

The Aces came on strong hitting .368 in game one. "We got off to a good start in game one to control the tempo of the game," said head coach Mike Swan. Megan Spurlock and Ginta Gabruseva each posted four kills in the 30-19 victory to lead the Aces' attack.

In game two, the Aces fell behind 20-12 but rallied back to score 13 of 14 of the next points to win the game 30-25.

The Salukis and Aces battled neck in neck in the third game but with the help of some timely blocking the Aces pulled out the sweep with a 30-27 victory in game three.

Leading the Aces attack was Sally Kulupka with 12 kills, Ginta Gabruseva with 11 and Megan Spurlock with 10 kills. Julie Walroth posted 26 digs in her climb to 2,000 career digs. She now has 1,932. Danielle Diehl had five block assists, leaving her in sole possession of fourth place on UE's all-time list.

The Aces return to action October 26-27 when they host Missouri State and Wichita State in two Missouri Valley contests. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. at Carson Center.
