For the third time this season, senior libero Julie Walroth (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) has been named State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player Of The Week. She led the University of Evansville to a 3-0 sweep over the Southern Illinois Salukis last week. The win put Evansville and Southern Illinois in a tie for sixth place in the MVC with 4-6 records.
Walroth, a senior sociology major, averaged 8.67 digs per game against the Salukis, recording a match-high 26 digs. In the Aces' last three matches, Walroth has posted at least 25 digs, a feat she has accomplished 10 times this season.
Walroth currently has 1,932 digs in her career and needs 123 more to surpass Julie Groves on UE's all-time list. Groves is also ranked first on the MVC all-time list and 17th in NCAA history with 2,055 career digs. Walroth was voted the 2006 Missouri Valley Conference Libero of the Year and received first-team all-conference and MVC all-academic honorable mention honors in 2006.
The Aces return to action October 26-27 when they host Missouri State and Wichita State in two Missouri Valley contests. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. at Carson Center.
