Wichita State Shocks Aces' Volleyball Team

EVANSVILLE, Ind.--After being swept by Missouri State last night, the University of Evansville volleyball team was swept by the Wichita State Shockers in three games at Carson Center Saturday night. The Aces never led after midway through game one and lost by scores of 30-18, 30-24, and 30-13.

In game one, the Aces and Shockers traded points for the first half of the game, but the Shockers pulled away in the second half for a 30-18 victory. Wichita State hit .400 and held UE to a .062 hitting percentage. Sara Lungren posted a game high seven kills and hit .700 for the Shockers.

The Aces put up a fight in a game two and never trailed by more than eight points. Danielle Diehl posted three kills and Julie Walroth contributed four digs in the game. Wichita State's Kim Wadsworth recorded eight kills, and Abby Harsh and Kelly Broussard had five digs each.

The Aces' ran out of gas in game three, and the Shockers ran away with a 30-13 victory. Overall, the Shockers had 54 kills and hit .345 and held the Aces to 28 kills and a .056 average.

Leading the Aces was Megan Spurlock with eight kills and seven digs. Ginta Gabruseva hit .267 with six kills and Julie Walroth posted 14 digs.

The Aces (11-12, 4-8) will be on the road next weekend when they travel to Drake and Creighton. The Aces will battle Drake on Friday at 7 p.m. and Creighton on Sunday at 1 p.m.
