NORMAL, Ill.--The host Illinois State Cardinals proved to be too much for the University of Evansville Lady Aces on Friday night, pulling out a 177.5-116.5 victory. The Aces continued to show improvement this season, pulling out multiple victories during the meet.
Freshmen standouts Christina Schmidgall, Kaitlyn Sluka and Diane Threlkeld led the way for the Purple Aces. Schmidgall finished first in the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle, Sluka topped all others in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke, and Threlkeld pulled away in the 200 yard individual medley. Along with sophomore Anna Luecke and freshman Kristyn Benter, Schmidgall and Sluka recorded the fastest time in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
On the diving board, senior Melissa Claycomb was the high finisher for the Aces on the night. Claycomb placed fifth on the one meter board, with a score of 173.32, and second on the three meter board, with a score of 167.84. Freshman Jennifer Childers finished just behind Claycomb in both diving events, tallying scores of 166.94 and 159.81 respectively.
The Lady Aces will be in action again tomorrow, this time including the men's team, in Charleston, Illinois as the Purple Aces take on Eastern Illinois. The meet is sched0000uled to begin at 10:00 p.m.
