Aces Go Down In Three

NORMAL, Ill.--The University of Evansville volleyball team is clinching on to hopes of making a second consecutive visit to the Missouri Valley Tournament, but with a loss to the No. 5 seed, Illinois State, Friday night the Aces' future is still uncertain. The Aces fell in three straight (30-14, 30-24 and 30-24) to drop to 13-15 on the season and 6-11 in the MVC. With the win, Illinois State improved to 18-10 on the season and 10-7 in the MVC. 

In game one, Illinois State cruised to a 30-14 win. The Redbirds' offense was too much for UE to handle as the Redbirds posted 17 kills and .364 average. Julie Walroth took over the top spot in UE history for career digs, with her third dig in the game.

The Aces posted hit .119 with 12 kills in game two, but Illinois State overpowered them with 19 kills and a .295 average.

The Aces put up a fight with 13 tie scores in game three but came up short in the 30-24 loss. The Redbirds had an impressive 22 kills to put away the Aces. The Aces hit their best of the night, posting a .167 aveage with 13 kills.

Megan Spurlock and Emily Wandersee led the Aces' offense with eight kills each, while Ginta Gabruseva posted seven. Elaine Walroth recorded a team-high 26 assists and Julie Walroth had 13 digs on the night. The Redbirds outpowered the Aces with 58 kills and .306 percentage, holding the Aces to 33 kills and .090 percentage.

The Aces will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. tomorrow night to play their last regular season match against the Indiana State Sycamores. The first serve is set for 6 p.m.
