EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Evansville volleyball team split its weekend games with Wichita State and Missouri State over the weekend to even their record to 10-10 with a 4-3 slate in the Missouri Valley Conference. This weekend the Aces will travel to Creghton and Drake for two matches in MVC play.

The #14 Wichita State Shockers were too much for the Aces as the Shockers went on to win in three at Carson Center last Friday. Saturday’s match was a different story as the Aces took a 3-2 victory over the visiting Bears. Before Saturday’s match, the Bears had only lost one match in 29 all-time meetings with the Aces with the lone win coming in five games in 1999 at UE. The Bears had also won the last 16 straight first sets. The Aces took the first set from the Bears, 25-19, and pushed the match to a fifth set, eventually winning 15-11.

The Aces had one of their best games over the weekend against Missouri State. They had a season-high 24 block assists, and it was one of their top three games of the season with 57 kills.

Ellen Sawin and Emily Wandersee were two of the Aces’ leaders over the weekend. Sawin averaged 9.00 assists per set and posted 25 assists on Friday against Wichita State. She posted a double-double against the Bears with 47 assists and 13 digs, both season highs for the freshman. At the net, Sawin also put up two block assists while serving up three aces in the match. Sawin leads the team in conference play averaging 9.06 assists per set and is second on the team with five service aces.

Wandersee hit .282 and averaged 2.25 kills per set in the two matches. In Friday's tough match against WSU, Wandersee led the team hitting .176 with six kills and committed just three errors in the match. On Saturday, Wandersee posted a season-high 12 kills in the match while hitting .364 to lead the team. She also had nine block assists, just one short of the single-match high at UE. Wandersee is hitting .239 for the season with 158 kills and is second on the team with 45 total blocks.

The Aces (10-10, 4-3) will face the Creighton Bluejays (8-7, 5-2) on Friday and the Drake Bulldogs (2-5, 9-10) on Saturday. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
