Men's Soccer Team Returns Home Sunday

10/31/2008 1:40:51 PM

Wednesday or Friday? That’s the question still remaining for the University of Evansville men's soccer team as the Purple Aces (8-6-1) get ready for Sunday's Missouri Valley Conference match against the Bradley Braves (6-9-1). Kickoff at UE's Black Beauty Field is at 1:00.

A victory gives the Aces a chance to finish as high as second in the MVC and advance directly to the semifinals of the State Farm MVC Tournament on Friday, Nov. 14. A loss or tie means the Aces will have to play in the opening round on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Winners that night advance to the semifinals against the top two regular season finishers two nights later. After Sunday's match against Bradley, Evansville completes the regular season Nov. 8 at home against Drake. UE hosts the conference tournament this year.

Evansville goes into the week in fourth place with a 1-2-0 record, trailing 3-0 Drake, 2-0-1 Creighton and 2-1-1 Missouri State. Bradley is fifth at 1-3 and Eastern Illinois is 0-3. Bradley comes into Sunday’s match with a four-game losing streak, although three of those defeats have come against nationally ranked Creighton, Drake and Butler. The Aces broke their own four-game winless streak last Saturday with a 3-1 MVC victory at Eastern Illinois, thanks to goals from Mike Luttrull, Tad Kreamalmeyer and Tyler Crawford. UE's Tom Irvin assisted on two of those goals, and is now ranked second nationally in assists with 11 in 15 matches.
