At six-foot-five, Nate Garner is an undersized power forward.  But he was bigger than any defender Earlham College could put on him, and Garner took advantage of the rare size advantage Saturday night in the University of Evansville's 91-52 exhibition victory over the Division III Quakers.

Garner scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his first double-double since last season's regular season opener against Samford.

"No matter who the opponent is, we just want to play hard and play better, and do the things Coach (Marty Simmons) wants us to do," said Garner, one of three seniors on this year's Aces' team. "I just concentrated on going to the basket and being in position."

The Aces broke this one open early, turning an 8-5 Earlham lead into a 33-16 UE advantage late in the first half on two free throws from Garner.  Evansville eventually led 44-23 at halftime and then outscored the Quakers 47-29 in the second half.  UE outrebounded Earlham 60-27, including a 24-2 offensive rebounding advantage.

Senior Shy Ely, who led the Aces with 24 in last week's victory over the University of Southern Indiana, contributed 16 against Earlham.  Center Pieter van Tongeren scored 10.  Earlham was led by Justin Barger with 16 and Kyle Calder with 11.  The Aces have now won 10 straight exhibition games, dating back to 2003.

Evansville opens the regular season next Saturday at home against Austin Peay at 7:05 as part of UE's Homecoming weekend.  Prior to the game, the Roberts Stadium floor will be dedicated as Arad A. McCutchan Court in honor of the legendary Aces' head coach who led Evansville to five college division national championships in his 31-year tenure from 1946 to 1977.
