3/5/2008 8:50:53 PM

FT. PIERCE, Fla.—Fueled by a school-record low round of 68 by senior golfer Crissy Higgins (Santa Claus, Ind./Heritage Hills), the University of Evansville women’s golf team carded a school-best single-round total of 297 Wednesday at the 2008 Treasure Coast Classic at Indian Hills Golf Course in Ft. Pierce, Florida.

Higgins carded the lowest round of the afternoon, shooting a three-under-par 68 to move into second place overall with a four-over-par total of 146.  Higgins’ 68 breaks the previous UE women’s record of 71, set by Andrea Werner in 2002, and ranks as the seventh-lowest round in UE golf history, male or female.

As a team, Evansville remained in second place with a two-day total of 604.  All six Purple Aces currently rank in the tournament’s Top 20, led by Higgins in second place and fellow senior Danielle Wolter (Evansville, Ind./Memorial) in 10th place, while playing as an individual.  Wolter has carded scores of 77 and 76 to sit 11 shots over par (153) with 18 holes left to play.  Florida Atlantic’s Praewnapa Phol-Uayporn continues to lead the individual race with a five-under-par 137 total (66-71).  FAU also leads the team race with a total of 581.

“I am really proud of the way the women played today,” said UE head coach Jim Hamilton.  “We were matched up with Florida Atlantic, which is a very good team, and we played right with them for the most part.

“Crissy was outstanding today.  From start to finish, she had a very strong round, and I was proud to see her set the school record today.”

The Treasure Coast Classic will conclude Thursday with 18 holes of golf beginning at 8:00 a.m.
