University of Evansville juniors Matt Hunsaker and Ryan Linsner were honored today by the Missouri Valley Conference by earning a place on the 2008 MVC Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team. This marks the fourth straight year in which Evansville has had at least one member of the scholar-athlete squad. The 11-man team was chosen by the league's sports information directors.
Hunsaker was chosen for the first team while Linsner was an honorable mention selection. Hunsaker has a 3.88 grade point average, and is majoring in accounting. He was number one on the team in 2007-08 with a 74.3 average. He finished in the top 20 at six of the 10 tournaments in which Evansville played, including a sixth place finish in the 88-player Adidas Hoosier Invitational and an eighth place finish in the 84-player Skyhawk Classic. Hunsaker shot a career-low 68 at the Treasure Coast Classic at Ft. Pierce, Fla. in March.
Linsner has a 3.98 GPA and is majoring in business. The 2006 transfer from Clemson University was UE's number five player in 2007-08 with a 77.67 average. His best finish was 22nd in a field of 70 golfers at the Southern Showdown at Birmingham, Ala. Linsner's low round of 71 came at the Jacksonville State Invitational at Tunica, Miss.
