DURHAM, N.H.—The University of Evansville volleyball team wrapped up action at the New Hampshire Holly Young Invitational with a record of 2-1. The Aces outlasted host UNH 3-1 in the first match on Saturday and rolled over Rhode Island in the last match 3-0. Ginta Gabruseva and Brooke Maher were named to the All-Tournament team.
"We finished on a strong note," said head coach Mike Swan. "We hope we can keep up this momentum when we come home."
Vs. UNH
New Hampshire did not make it easy, but the Aces took three of the four sets to win the match. Set scores were 28-26, 25-23, 23-25, 29-27. Overall, the Aces hit .162 with 56 kills, 51 assists, and 85 digs.
Brooke Maher led the offense with 15 kills and matched that with 15 digs in the game. Sally Kulupka posted 11 kills and had two block assists, while Kerry Sylvester tallied eight kills and four block assists. Katie Kincaid and Kaisi Nixon had 21 and 15 assists, respectively. Defensively, Julie Sylvester had 26 digs to keep her in the top ten in the Missouri Valley Conference standings.
Vs. Rhode Island
The Aces made short work of Rhode Island in the Aces’ last match on Saturday, winning the three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-18. The Aces hit .210 and had 39 kills in the game.
Kerry Sylvester and Rachel Robinson led the way for the Aces with 10 kills each. Robinson also had a solo block and four block assists in the game. Ellen Sawin tallied seven kills and had 16 assists for the Aces and Julie Sylvester picked up 18 digs.
The Aces (6-6) will return home to Carson Center on Tuesday to host Lipscomb for a 7 p.m. match.
