Aces' Comeback Falls Short

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Evansville volleyball team suffered its first home loss of the season to Lipscomb University on Tuesday night at Carson Center. The Bisons pulled out a 15-13 win in the fifth set to take the match 3-2.
 
“We are very disappointed in the way we played in the first two sets,” said head coach Mike Swan. “Our blocking came together in the last sets, but we fell behind and could not catch up.”
 
The Lady Bisons took the first two sets before the ten minute intermission with scores of 25-21 and 25-19. Brooke Maher paced the Aces with four kills in the first set while Ellen Sawin had nine assists and eight digs.
 
In the second set, Emily Wandersee posted three kills in the Aces’ loss. Maher had six digs and Katie Kincaid had five assists. Katie Rose paced the Bisons with five kills and hit .368 over the first two sets.
 
After the intermission, the Aces battle back to take the third set 25-19. Maher and Sally Kulupka had three kills each to lead the Aces. Defensively, Julie Sylvester tallied seven digs in the set.
 
The Aces hit their best in the fourth set, hitting. 229 with 13 kills. Maher had four kills while Kincaid had five assists to lead the team
 
The Aces hung in the final set but were unable to pull out the win. The Lady Bisons outhit the Aces .410 to .200 in the final set to take the victory.
 
Overall, Maher had a double-double for the Aces with 14 kills and 16 digs. Kulupka had 13 kills and Wandersee posted 10 kills in the game. Kaisi Nixon had 17 assists while Ellen Swain had 11. Defensively, Julie Sylvester added to her total with 23 digs to lead the team.
 
The Aces (6-7) will begin Missouri Valley play on Friday when they host Illinois State. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
